U.S. VeteranOn March 6, 2013, Eugene Joseph Keyek of Haddon Township, NJ. Age 79 years.

Loving father of Deborah Keyek-Franssen (Dean) of Lafayette, CO; David Cavanaugh-Keyek (Carrie) of Boulder, CO and Andrew Ransom-Keyek (Julie) of Steamboat Springs, CO. Loving brother of Betty Jean Smith (Al) and Patricia Rogalski (Greg); loving brother-in-law of Bernie Keyek and Jean Keyek; cherished uncle and great uncle of many.

Gene was born in Nanticoke, PA on July 4th, 1933. He played football and basketball in the Air Force (1952-1956), basketball and cross-country at Glassboro State Teachers College (1956-1960), where he met his wife, Sue. Gene had a long career as an educator and administrator. He taught and was principal at many schools across South Jersey. He received his Doctorate in Education from Rutgers University, New Brunswick. As Superintendent of Schools in Audubon for 14 years, he taught every kindergarten class how to do thumb races; the AHS graduating class of his last year stood to honor him at their ceremonies by twiddling their thumbs in unison.

He lobbied in Trenton on behalf of students at the New Jersey Association of School Board Officials before retiring to work for his wife in educational records management. The two spent many happy years together, camping with their young children, enjoying celebrations with a jolly extended family and relaxing on many cruises. When their three children moved to Colorado, they enjoyed many visits there and took the whole gang on memorable family vacations. Gene was a beloved husband, father and son, the brother everyone turned to and surrogate father to many. He will be sorely missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family on Saturday 10 AM to 12 Noon at the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, 250 White Horse Pike, Audubon, NJ. Funeral Service will follow at 12 Noon. Interment private.
