On March 23, 2010, of Greencastle, PA, formerly of Collingswood, NJ. Age 81 years.
He was the son of the late Arthur M. Collings, Sr. and Vera Robb Collings, grandson of the late Isaac Zane Collings and great grandson of the late Richard T. Collings. Beloved husband of 52 years to Jean Collings. Dear father of Arthur M. Collings, III of Red Hook, NY and David H. (Dawn) Collings of Mercursburg, PA. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Sean, Samuel, Margaret and Allison and a brother, Lawrence Collings of Lady Lake, FL.
Arthur graduated from Collingswood High School in 1946, served two tours of duty for the U.S. Army in Korea and graduated from the Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture in 1952. In 1956, he joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farmers Home Administration, where he worked for 30 years assisting rural, low income people. In 1964, he created the first federally funded self-help housing program, which served as a model for later programs around the country. After retiring from the federal government, he worked for over 20 years with the Housing Assistance Council in Washington D.C., where he provided assistance and training to hundreds of individuals and organizations.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Friday 10 to 11 AM at the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, 820 Haddon Ave., Collingswood, NJ. Funeral service will follow at 11 AM. Interment Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill, NJ.
