Donald S. “Don” Olsen, 76, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026 at his home in Philadelphia, PA.
Born, raised, and residing most of his life on Manayunk Ave. in Roxborough, Don was a quiet leader, an intellectual, and a kind-hearted man who positively impacted many people’s lives. He loved Old English bulldogs, books, the Eagles, good food, Irish heritage, and his family. Don was a 1967 graduate of Roman Catholic High School.
He was a U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran, serving from 1968-1972. Subsequently, Don worked at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard where he was an electrical planner and inspector until his retirement from the Navy in 1995. He then spent the next 20+ years of his career as an electrician at Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science (Philadelphia University/Thomas Jefferson University) until his full retirement.
Don treasured his time spent back the Wissahickon “Crick” as well as summers in Wildwood, NJ with his family where they vacationed since his childhood. Sports were very important part of his life. He loved playing softball having spent many years playing in men’s softball leagues in the area. Don was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. Nothing made him happier than celebrating the Philadelphia Eagles Superbowl championships with his family.
Loving father of Kathryn B. Palomino, Meredith (Shannon) Clapper, Elizabeth (Will) Olsen, Patrick (Meggan) Olsen and the late Donnie Olsen. Devoted grandpop to Santi (Adam), Alex (Heidi), Mateo, Emily, Abigail, Sean, D.J. and Dylan. Beloved son of the late John and Mary Olsen. Dear brother of Kathleen Sullivan and the late John, Jim, Joe, Mary, Nancy, Francis and Dan. He is also survived by a dear cousin, Mary Kenny, and many nieces and nephews.
