IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Douglas M.
Groves
September 2, 1943 – August 17, 2024
On August 17, 2024, of Cherry Hill, NJ. Age 80 years.
Beloved husband of 56 years to Connie Groves (nee Schreiber). Loving father of Christy (Frank) Appello of Voorhees, NJ and Todd Groves (Lish Lindsey) of NYC, NY and grandfather of Charlotte and Abby Appello.
Doug grew up in Philadelphia and received a Master's Degree in Engineering from Drexel University in 1968. He worked for Philadelphia Electric Company as a Nuclear Engineer for most of his career, spending much of his time keeping nuclear power plants running safely. Doug was also an adjunct math professor at Camden County College. Later in life, he volunteered at Habitat for Humanity and won an award for his service.
Doug and his wife Connie were married for 56 years, most of which were spent in Cherry Hill. He was very proud of his two children, Christy and Todd, and he enjoyed going to all of their activities, both near and far.
Doug often gave his time, his intellect, and his athletic ability to community groups, including Haddontowne Swim Club and Cherry Hill East Soccer Association and as a baseball coach for both Cherry Hill American and Cherry Hill Babe Ruth. He really enjoyed being a grandfather to Charlotte and Abby, and was thrilled to be on the soccer sidelines again cheering them both on when they were younger. As their interests changed, he continued to play chauffeur and support them in whatever they did. Doug also enjoyed golfing and continued to do so until recently with a great group of guys.
When meeting Doug, your impression would probably be that he was very quiet. He was honestly probably deep in thought. He was always willing to help and teach in so many ways. He will be deeply missed by his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Friday, August 23, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, 250 S. White Horse Pike, Audubon, NJ. Interment private.
Please NO flowers. The family would prefer contributions in Doug's memory be made to Habitat For Humanity (www.habitat.org). To share memories and condolences please visit www.fosterwarnefuneralhome.com.
