Euclides Herrera, age 101, formerly of Pitman, NJ entered into the kingdom of our Lord on June 24, 2016.
Beloved husband of the late Cynthia Elizabeth (nee Bradley). Loving father of Elizabeth, George (Gloria), Mark (Beth), Carl (Margaret), David (Monique), Kenneth, Howard, Matthew and Thomas. Caring grandfather of Paul, Felicia (Ryan Legato), James, Sean, Rachel, Michael, Jennianne, Jonathan Bodnar, Lindsey and Leah. Adoring great grandfather of Christian and Delfina.
He was born September 12, 1914 in the town of Atahualpa, Ecuador to the late Alejandro Herrera and Isabel Morales. Atahualpa rests in a beautiful land, like a little child on his mother's lap, surrounded by beautiful mountains, behind which the majestic sun rises at six in the morning and crosses the equator under the celestial dome, spreading its golden rays behind the Andes to set at six in the evening.
After finishing elementary school, Euclides had to think of what he was going to do in order to survive happily, during his future life. He received his teaching degree from Juan Montalvo Teacher's College.
Euclides came to the United States in 1951 to study at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, with a scholarship given by the Institute of Interamerican Affairs and the Ministry of Education of Ecuador. He continued his studies at various institutions, such as the University of Maryland, Berea College in Kentucky and Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City, Utah. He met his beautiful wife, Cynthia Bradley at Penland School of Handicrafts in Penland, NC.
They were married in Hanover, MA in 1952. He lived in Quito, Ecuador and Venezuela with his wife and young family during his early married life.
Euclides was an accomplished artist. After completing bachelors and masters degrees in art education at Glassboro State College, he became an art teacher in the Williamstown School District. He had a true passion to convey the beauty and love of art to his students. Euclides was an avid reader and learner. He enjoyed travel, walking and his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Thursday 9:30 to 10:45 AM at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, St. Aloysius Church, 37 W. Haddon Ave., Oaklyn, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM. Interment Manahath Cemetery, Glassboro, NJ.
