Florence "Florrie" Stockton Gurtcheff went to be with her Lord on Monday, September 23, 2013, surrounded by her loving children.
Born in Collingswood in 1920, the only child of Alice H. and John S. Martin, she was a very proud, life-long resident of Collingswood. She attended Collingswood public schools, graduating from Collingswood High School in 1939. Following graduation, she attended business college in Philadelphia. She met and later married Edward R. Gurtcheff of Camden, a 1941 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and World War II naval officer. After the war, the couple moved back to Collingswood where they raised a family and remained for the rest of their lives. They were active members of Immanuel Orthodox Presbyterian Church and later the First United Methodist Church of Collingswood, where they sang in both choirs.
When her children entered college, Florence went to work in retail sales. After the death of her loving husband, a career employee of Campbell Soup Company, in 1998 Florence moved to Uxbridge in Cherry Hill and then to the Cadbury, also in Cherry Hill.
Florrie loved nature's beauty and found beauty in virtually everything she saw. She loved flowers, especially gladiolas, animals of every kind and she loved Ocean City, NJ. But above all else, she loved her family.
Dear mother of five children: Marjorie Stockton Rhine (Ed) of Chocowinity, NC, Col. John H. Gurtcheff, USAF Ret. (Maggie) of Sumter, SC, Alice B. Quick (Jon) of Collingswood, NJ, Julia M. Walton (Dave) of Zionsville, PA and Amy G. Holm (Mark) of Cherry Hill, NJ. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Mom, Nana, Great Nana you will be missed greatly!
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family on Sunday, September 29, 1:30 to 2 PM in the Oak Room at the Cadbury, 2150 Route 38, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002. Memorial Service will follow at 2 PM. Interment private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Animal Orphanage, P.O. Box 1363, 419 Cooper Rd., Voorhees, NJ 08043 and/or Cadbury at Cherry Hill at the above address.
