Florence E. Miller passed away peacefully in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on June 28, 2016. She was born in Ottawa in 1919 to Henry and Beatrice Dagg. She attended school there and graduated from Lisgar Collegiate. In 1944 she married Rev. Howard B. Miller and they moved to Collingswood, NJ where her husband took the position of Rector at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Flossie began her journey as the consummate clergyman's wife. They were a team that made being a member of their parish a joyful, fun and spiritual experience. With Flossie by his side, Father Miller expanded and strengthened the church's activities until their impact was felt throughout the diocese and beyond. Sadly, Howard passed away suddenly in 1969, but this did not curtail Flossie's involvement in the church and community. She was active in numerous community service groups, including the volunteer organization of Cooper Hospital and the Family Counseling Service. She coordinated local CROP Walk activities, recruiting volunteers and coordinating the financial aspects. She also served as one of the moving spirits in the Ecumenical Summer Bible School. Besides her participation in formally structured activities, she also befriended and cared for several lonely and neglected folk.
She found time to speak to church, charitable and service groups throughout the area. Through her affiliation with the church, she served as delegate to five conventions, was appointed Director of Religious Education and Superintendent of Sunday Schools and worked with the Girls Friendly Society; visiting shut-ins and the hospitalized, as well as counseling the elderly with their special problems.
Her identical twin sister, Doreen Dagg of Ottawa, with whom she had been living with in a retirement home in Ottawa for the last few years predeceased her in 2015. She is survived by two nieces, Mary McMillan of Naples, FL and Barbara Ryan of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and many close friends in NJ.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service on Friday, September 16, 2016, 11 AM at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 839 Haddon Ave., Collingswood, NJ 08108. Inurnment Harleigh Cemetery, Camden, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the church at the above address.
Arrangements by the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, Collingswood and Audubon, NJ.
