George Reginald Tyree, Jr., age 81, of Trenton, New Jersey, passed away peacefully in the early morning of May 10, 2026 at Collingswood Manor in Collingswood, NJ with his daughter, Jocelyn by his side. Reggie, as he was affectionately known, was born on August 3, 1944 in Plainfield, NJ. He was the son of the late George Reginald Tyree, Sr. and Audrey Richardson Tyree. Reggie was raised in Trenton and graduated from Trenton Central High School in 1962. Following his high school graduation, he went on to serve his country in the United States Navy. After having been honorably discharged, Reggie embarked on a long career in the U.S. transportation system. He started as a Signalman with Amtrak and worked up to the position of Inspector for the Federal Railroad Administration. In November, 1966 Reggie married Glenna Celeste Logan, later Sahalah Ousu and from that union two children were born: Marlin and Tammy. Then in August 1977, Reggie married Vernetta Adams and from that union Jocelyn and Adam were born. Reggie and Vernetta had created another child named David Michael yet he was delivered as a stillborn baby in 1989. David Michael never breathed on his own.
Reggie was a lifelong sports enthusiast. He competed successfully in amateur boxing contests in his youth as well as participating in local golf tournaments in young adulthood. Reggie also attended professional football and baseball games and often engaged in recreational fishing with friends and family members. Music was another lifelong love for him, seldom letting it leave his side. Early on in his life, he participated in glee clubs, barbershop quartets and solo singing for fun and settled down to avid record collecting in later years. The theater was also a strong attraction for Reggie, passing down to his children a love and engagement with the creative and performing arts. Reggie loved movies with musical themes in later years such as West Side Story and especially his beloved Hello Dolly starting Barbara Streisand. Reggie could also be found in Atlantic City, NJ with one of his companions that he found in his later years. Reggie lived at home with his daughter Jocelyn for many years watching movies, listening to music, and spending time with friends and family.
In July 2022, Reggie moved to Collingswood Manor in Collingswood, NJ to receive care and support for his declining health conditions. Reggie quickly became a great shining star of the community. He enjoyed doing arts and crafts, painting, making/eating desserts, playing Volleyball, BINGO, Cornhole, Trivia, and other games with the residents in Assisted Living and the Whitman Hallway on the 5th floor in Health Care. Reggie was a part of the Veterans’ Group who ate together once a month in the 4th floor Community Room.
Reggie went on many trips to restaurants, outdoor events, and on the Scenic Drives with the Community Life Assistants. Reggie attended exercise class as well as attended the Worship Services on Sunday mornings that his daughter conducted as the Chaplain of the Collingswood Manor community. Reggie had a smile that could light up the room and all of the employees as well as residents loved to come and check on him. He truly touched the lives of everyone who knew him. Reggie leaves a legacy of laughter, love, strength and compassion that lives on in all of us.In addition to his parents and his son David Michael, Reggie was preceded in death by his first wife, Glenna (Sahalah); his second wife, Vernetta; his daughter, Tammy; his brother, Robert Eugene Tyree and brothers-in-law, Thomas Logan, Jr., Eric, Clayton and Dwayne Adams and William Hill. The family members that remain to cherish his memories are his children Marlin, Jocelyn and Adam Tyree; his sister, Beverly Hill; his sisters-in-law, Grace Logan Davis, Wanda Logan, Annette Patterson (Charles) and Janice Williams. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, cousins and friends.
