IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gloria M.
Collins
August 28, 1949 – April 4, 2021
On April 4, 2021, of Williamstown, NJ; formerly of Oaklyn, NJ. Age 71 years.
Loving mother of Denise L. Boyd of Somers Point, NJ and the late Nancy G. Boyd. Dear sister of Robert T. Collins (Belinda) and William F. Collins (Michele). She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by former husbands, John A. Boyd and Richard Rideg.
Gloria grew up in Oaklyn, NJ, with an Italian Mom and an Irish Dad.
The Italian side of the family had the most influence.
It was an affectionate, expressive house-hold where Family was held dear as the most important thing!
Her Italian Mom was the youngest of 10 children. The family gatherings were very special and fun, where food was central!
All the children were told, Mangia! Meaning eat and enjoy….Every Holiday, Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving etc
Christmas may be ravioli with ricotta cheese, hot and sweet Italian sausage, home-made meatballs and homemade sauce would be kept hot in a large pot on the table. Antipasto with sliced orange, sliced salami, sliced provolone, sliced hard-boiled egg, tuna, black olives and anchovies, with olive oil and red wine vinegar on the table.
Gloria and her family, growing up, would spend a lot of the summer at the beach home in Avalon, NJ, originally owned by her Grand-pop and Grand-mom Saccomanno, dating back to the 1930's. The beach, the ocean, the South Jersey Shore, were much loved by all the family!!
In winter time, the family home, in Oaklyn, NJ, where she and her brother's grew up, was on a street with a creek behind the side of block facing them. Ice skating and taking the sled out was much enjoyed.
With an Italian mom and 2 older brothers, they would always look out for the youngest, Gloria.
She met her soon-to-be future husband, John A Boyd, who's family also grew up in the little, quaint town of Oaklyn, NJ. Gloria and John were married at St Aloysius Church on February 20 th , 1971.
They moved to nearby, Bellmawr, NJ. They bought a home and they were blessed to have had a daughter, Denise, who was born in 1974. Gloria was really hoping for a girl.
Denise was very blessed to be showered with much love from, Gloria, John, Italian Grand-mom and Irish Grand-pop Collins, her 2 brothers and the rest of the large family of Grand-mom Collins.
Gloria and John and little Denise often vacationed at the South Jersey Shore. Gloria loved the shore atmosphere. She enjoyed fishing as well. She took her daughter on the charter fishing boat, the Royal Flush, as it was called, in Wildwood, NJ.
Gloria and John and Grand-mom Collins took Denise to Walt Disney World for the first time when she was 4 years old. The most magical, super-spectacular time!! Little Denise was Awestruck!! "It's A Small World After All." What amazing memories among so many others for the family to have.
The Pride of Gloria's life was her daughter. Gloria would organize wonderful parties with many friends and family to celebrate Denise graduating from Camden Catholic high school with honors, her 21 st birthday, her graduation from Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, major in Marketing and Communications.
Much continued party planning for future milestone birthdays for Denise. She put her whole heart and soul into making these events the very best she could make it.
Gloria never missed a Birthday to call Denise and sing Happy Birthday to her.
Gloria was funny, animated, a Great Friend to very many friends. She was very loved, especially by her daughter. Always a circle of friends surrounded Gloria. She had a Zest for Life!
Gloria will be immeasurably missed!! Too Young, she had so much more Zest to go, if she could have.
