Obituary

Hazel Anita Davis "Anita," 82, of Westmont, NJ, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2024.  Known for her fun-loving, gregarious nature and indomitable spirit, Anita will be missed by all who knew her.

The daughter of Peter Slatner and Dorothy Mae (Watson) Lund and stepdaughter of Dorothy (Leadbetter) Slatner, Anita was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Norbert. She is survived by her daughter, Anita Speas (Jacques); son, Dennis (Kim); three grandchildren, Lauren Catlett (Jonathan), Megan Lex (Keith), and Dennis Davis, Jr. (Jillian); and eight great grandchildren, Miles, Claire, Scout, Griffin, Natalie, Marlowe, Jackson, and Brielle.

Anita was born with a fighting spirt, overcoming rheumatic fever as a toddler.  She earned her diploma from Swarthmore High School and proceeded to carve out a space in the business world at a time when doing so as a woman required determination, finesse, and pluck. After earning her CFP, she co-founded Haddon Financial Group, providing financial guidance to her many clients until she sold her practice upon retirement.  She was also the founder of Kiddie Korner, a preschool that helped hundreds of children get a head start on education over the course of 43 years.  She took her responsibility to serve the community to heart as a member of the Haddonfield United Methodist Church, as well as the Oaklyn Rotary Club, for which she served as President for several years.

Anita was devoted to her family.  She delighted in taking her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren on road trips and hosting extended family and friends for regular retreats at the Hunter's Horn, her beloved second home in the Poconos.  She was a skilled home cook, preparing a bounty of food for every occasion, and she loved visiting local restaurants and specialty food shops to sample and share cuisine from around the world with those she loved.  Anita was an active and engaged grandmother and great-grandmother who took her grandchildren all over the Northeast, including their annual trips to the Wanamaker Light Show, Richmond, Lancaster, and the Poconos.  She cooked and made crafts with them, helped them prepare theatrical productions, and was always the first to get down on the ground to color, inspect a bug, or clean up a mess with them.  When not with her family and friends, she found joy in the time she spent with her beloved dogs, Gidget and Ladybug.

Anita's family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life and not the sadness of her passing. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation at Haddonfield United Methodist Church, 29 Warwick Road, Haddonfield, NJ, on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 9:00am to 11:00am, with service to follow.  Entombment Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill, NJ.
