IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Anthony
Boyd
September 20, 1937 – January 5, 2020
John Anthony Boyd passed away on January 5, 2020 at the age of 82. A resident of Somers Point, NJ, he formerly resided in Oaklyn, NJ.
Loving father of Denise L. Boyd of Somers Point, NJ and the late Nancy G. Boyd. Dear brother of Kathy (Michael) Callison, the late Ann Boyd and the late Dr. Mary (the late Ronald) Pursell. He is also survived by his former wife and caretaker, Gloria Collins and nieces and nephews.
Growing up in Oaklyn, John graduated from Collingswood High School in 1955. After which he joined the Army, where he served until 1961. While in the Army, John attended US Army Southeastern Signal School specializing in Field Radio Repair. In 1963, he joined the Air Force where he ranked as Airman First Class and attended Aerospace Rescue and Recovery training. John served in the Air Force through 1967 during the Vietnam Conflict.
John and Gloria were married at St. Aloysius Church in Oaklyn in 1971. As a family they often vacationed at the Wildwood, NJ shore as well as some trips to Disney in Florida. He owned and operated his own business, Boyd's Television Repair Service, based out of their home at the time in Bellmawr, NJ. He had the business from the early 1970s through the late 1980s. Since then he mostly worked in the maintenance and repair field, retiring in the mid 2000s. John participated in senior center events, lunches, socials and dances. He loved to read, take walks and was very interested in science, politics, the economy and the environment. John also enjoyed many father/daughter outings with Denise over the years. He was always very kind, polite and grateful and had a very good sense of humor. Often times when someone would do something nice for him, he would say "that's the spirit!". That became one of his famous taglines. He was very well liked by all who got to know him and will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Friday 9:30 to 11:00 AM at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, St. Aloysius Church, 37 W. Haddon Ave., Oaklyn, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment with Military Honors at New St. Mary's Cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ.
