John J Bentz Sr., 86, a resident of Collingswood, NJ for more than 60 years, died peacefully surrounded by family on May 28 2023. John was born on October 31, 1936 in Pottsville PA to John D. and Florence (nae Hahner) Bentz. John is survived by his wife of 60 years Patricia (nee Green) and their 4 sons: John Jr. (Brenda) of Haddon Township, NJ, Joseph (Maureen) of Columbia, MD, Paul of Seneca Falls, NY, and William of West Chester, PA. John and Pat enjoyed spending time with their 14 grandchildren: Meghan, Joseph Jr. (fiancé Sydney Ventolo), Kelly, Catherine, Elyse, Jack, Sean, Brendan, Matthew, Michael, Lauren, Ashley, Natalie, and Hailey. John is predeceased by two sisters, Lois Desch (Ed) and Joanne Hepler (Sterling) and is survived by his brother Robert (Donna) of Pottsville. John is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews across the U.S. from New Jersey to Montana.
After graduating from Pottsville Catholic High School, John attended St. Francis College in Loretto PA where he accepted a scholarship to play football. An excellent student, John graduated with honors and a BS in Industrial Management. Proud of his Pottsville heritage, he always valued the opportunity to return to his home and support his community including St. John the Baptist Church, the Yorkville Hose Company, and enjoying a few beverages from America's Oldest Brewery.
John excelled in numerous management and executive positions at RCA in Camden NJ and General Electric in Philadelphia PA for over 30 years. After his retirement, John was actively involved in the American Legion and often socialized at American Legion halls in Oaklyn NJ, the Jersey shore, and the Poconos. John was a devoted family man and enjoyed spending time with his entire family. The family enjoyed many years vacationing at their home at Big Bass Lake in the Poconos and at the Jersey shore. John was a lifelong devoted Catholic and was a parishioner of St. John Church and St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish in Collingswood, NJ. for over 50 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's viewing on Thursday, June 1, 10:30 to 11:30 AM at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, St. John Church, 809 Park Ave., Collingswood, NJ 08108. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 AM. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish food pantry or charitable organization of your choice.
