Obituary

On August 11, 2016, Jack Robertson passed away of "old age" with loving members of his family close by. For nearly 100 years he lived in his Park Avenue "homestead" in his beloved hometown of Collingswood.

Born on October 25, 1915 with "a baseball in one hand and a basketball in the other" to Reba and Buddy Robertson. "Jackie" always had a smile on his face, personality plus, and a love of sports. He played on championship baseball and basketball teams at Collingswood High School and Brown Prep in Philadelphia in the 1930's. He was proudly inducted into the Collingswood Athletic Hall of Fame.

He married his "Haddonfield sweetheart" Dorothy Taylor. They had three children, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. During his working career, Jack was a salesman for the Birdseye Corporation, worked at Green Valley Farm and was for 25 years the men's clothing manager for Bamberger's at the Cherry Hill Mall. For a number of years he was a respected South Jersey basketball official, announced football and basketball games at Collingswood High School and wrote a sports column for the Suburban Newspaper.

He was the father of Jack (Beverly MacPherson), Jim (Lynne Santosuosso-Pickens) and Deborah (Ed Dodd). Papa to Cherlyn, Debra (John Halpin), Shannon, David (Chrissy Carrol), Andrew (Jennifer Maclure), Courtney and Zachary Sherwood (Sandra Silva). He was known as "Papa Jack" to Gus, Owen, Rowan, Julia, Waverly, Cody, Priscilla and Mariana.

A private memorial service will be held for family at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Collingswood Athletic Hall of Fame, Attn: William McLaughlin, P.O. Box 512, Collingswood, NJ 08108.

Arrangements by the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, Collingswood and Audubon, NJ.
