On January 2, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.  A lifelong resident of Haddon Heights, John was 81 years old.

Beloved husband of 62 years to Penny Schmidt (nee D'Amico).  Loving father of John Jr. (Penny), Patty Ann (Thomas) Perkins and Mike (Judy). Devoted grandfather of Tara (Jake) Kunes, Suzie (Brandon) Benish, John Schmidt III (Daniella), Matthew Schmidt, Josh Perkins, Danny Perkins, Maxim Schmidt and Josie Schmidt and great grandfather of John Daniel Schmidt "Bubba" and Mason and Dane Kunes.  Son of the late Christopher Len and Connie Schmidt.  Dear brother of Michael (Josie) Schmidt and Lenda (the late John) DiFulgentis.  Uncle to many nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by a son, Gregory Schmidt.

John was a 1959 graduate of Haddon Heights High School.  He was the owner and president of C. Len Schmidt & Son, Inc., Haddon Heights. John was also the past president, past assistant chief and life member of the Haddon Heights Fire Department.  An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of Tavistock Country Club where he had 4 holes-in-one and was a member of the golf team.  John was a longtime parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Parish where he served as a Eucharistic Minister.  He spent many years as a coach in the HHYA and was the past president of the NJ State Volunteer Fireman's Association, the Haddon Heights Business and Professional Association, the Haddon Heights Jaycees and was also a life member of the Camden County Master Plumbers Association.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Saturday 9:00 to 10:45 AM at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, St. Vincent Pallotti Church, 901 Hopkins Rd., Haddon Twp., NJ.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM.  Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery, Chews Landing, NJ.
