On December 29, 2010, formerly of Collingswood, NJ. Age 91 years.

Beloved husband of the late Betty Shirk. Dear father of William (Jeanne) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Stephen (Johanna) of Audubon, NJ, Gary of Naples, FL and the late John J., Jr. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Cynthia, Christine (John-Paul), Shephanie, Michael, Jennifer, Alexandra, John, Paige and Ryan and 3 great grandchildren: Shannon, James and Sean.

Mr. Shirk was a 1938 graduate of Collingswood High School and earned an associates degree from Drexel University. He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and continued his military service in the U.S. Air Force Reserves until his retirement on January 14, 1973 as a lieutenant colonel.

Mr. Shirk retired in 1980 after 40 years with New Jersey Bell Telephone/Verizon. He was a lifelong active parishioner of St. John Church, Collingswood and a longtime active member of the Collingswood Democrat Club, eventually serving the borough as a Commissioner from 1973 to 1980 as well as the Collingswood Housing Authority. He was active in many other Collingswood civic and community organizations, was a Camden County committeeperson and continued his involvement in community activities in Naples, FL.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Monday Evening, January 3rd, 7 to 9 PM and Tuesday, January 4th, 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, 820 Haddon Ave., Collingswood, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday 11 AM from Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish at St. John Church, Park & Lees Aves., Collingswood, NJ. Burial will be with his late wife in Naples, FL.
