Joseph Z. Acerbo, Sr., 89, of Bellmawr, NJ passed away peacefully on February 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Joe was the beloved husband of 66 years to Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Mancini).  Loving father of Joseph Z. Acerbo, Jr. (Barbara) of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Nancy Acerbo of Ventnor, NJ and the late Susan Acerbo.  Cherished and adored Pop-Pop of Gina Marie (Dave) Acerbo-Klotz, Nicole Elizabeth Acerbo (Sean Walsh) and Joseph Z. Acerbo, III.  Dear brother of Theresa, Angie, the late Philomena, the late Anthony and the late Mary and brother-in-law to Dominic Paul, the late Joseph, the late Marie and the late James.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Joe was employed for 37 years starting out as an apprentice, working out of a unit at the Philadelphia Naval shipyard and later at the Catapult and Arresting Gear Facilities at the US Naval Station in Lakehurst New Jersey.  Joe specialized in catapult and arresting gear systems employed aboard US Navy aircraft carriers.  He was also involved in the development and testing of the mirror OLS and its successor the Fresnel Lens (a day/night, all weather) optical landing system used to give glidepath information to pilots during the terminal phase of their approach and recovery aboard ship. Joe traveled the world testing the landing and launch systems on the US Naval aircraft carriers ensuring they worked properly for the safety of our Navy Pilots.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Thursday, February 29, 2024, 9:00 to 11:30 AM at the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, 250 S. White Horse Pike, Audubon, NJ.  Prayer service will follow at 11:30 AM.  Interment private.
