Joseph Francis Dougherty, loving and devoted husband, father, brother and uncle passed away on May 16, 2023 at 88 years of age.

Joe was born on October 27, 1934 in Pennsauken, NJ to Alexander Dougherty and Kathryn (nee Donahue). Joe came from a family of seven children and is survived by his sister, Frances McGaurn.

Joseph was married to Rita (nee St. John) for 63 years, prior to her death in 2020. Rita and Joseph raised seven children in Collingswood, NJ and have 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Joseph was preceded in death by his sons, Joseph G. Dougherty and Alexander J. Dougherty and his wife Linda, and his son-in-law, Christopher M. Smith. He is survived by his children Rita Anne O'Toole (Stephen), Maureen Smith (the late Christopher Smith), Monica Potosky (Gary), Paul Dougherty (Dina), Daniel Dougherty (Elaine) and daughter-in-law, Lydia Dougherty.

Joseph was a high school teacher for Hamilton Township West for 40 years. Over the years he taught special education and business classes. Joseph was a family man and enjoyed spending his free time with his grandchildren; Matthew, Daniel, Jeremiah, Rachel, and Jacob Dougherty; Patrick (Kate) and Erin O'Toole; Michael (Meghan), Margaret (Matthew Becker), and Katherine Smith; Andrew and Claire Potosky; Ryan, Cara, and Maren Dougherty; Alec, Sam and Grace Dougherty. Joseph is a lifelong Catholic and a parishioner of St. John Church and St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish in Collingswood, NJ.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Monday, May 22, 2023 10:30 to 11:30 AM at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, St. John Church, 809 Park Ave., Collingswood, NJ.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 AM. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill, NJ.
