Obituary

On August 3, 2013, of Collingswood, NJ. Age 102 years.

Beloved wife of the late Everett H. Slimm. Dear mother of Barbara (the late H. Carl) Weber, Donald E. (the late Carol Cade) Slimm and Betty S. (John C.) Parsons. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

Julia was a lifelong resident of South Jersey. She grew up in Haddonfield with her parents and three sisters, and a close knit family of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. After attending business school in Philadelphia during the mid 1920's, she worked in the area, eventually meeting and marring Everett H. Slimm. This began a long, loving, and very active life together. They were living in Lumberton, NJ when they accepted the Lord together and dedicated Barbara and Donald, embarking upon a lifelong love of Jesus, making the church the core of their spiritual and social lives.

In 1941, they moved to Collingswood, where Julia continued to live until her passing. During those years they added another child, Betty, to the family. They had a gas station business, they owned rentals in Sea Isle, and the Seaview Hotel in Ocean City. The family lost Everett in 1971, and Julia began a new life without him, but very involved with her church and now six grandchildren.

In 1998, she moved into the Collingswood Manor where she was very active in the residential life. She managed and worked in the gift shop, taught arts and crafts, represented the residents at Manor residential meetings, and she organized the annual flea market. She also was a regular on the weekly scenic trips and special tours.

During her life, she served in various activities at the First United Methodist Church of Collingswood, the Collingswood School PTA, starting with Garfield through the Senior High with all three children, as well as scouting and youth activities at UMC. She enjoyed lifelong friendships with women in the Mt. Holly Club and the Collingswood Club.

She was loved dearly and will be missed by all.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family on Thursday 10 to 11 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 201 Dayton Ave., Collingswood, NJ. Funeral Service will follow at 11 AM. Interment Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Fellowship Fund of Collingswood Manor, 460 Haddon Ave., Collingswood, NJ 08108.
