Clare Young was born in Carbondale, Illinois to Thomas A. and Mary S. Young. She died at age 69 on June 4, 2020. She resided in Haddon Township, NJ for the past sixteen years.
Clare is survived by her wife Toby L. Snider, her brother Ty (Cyndee) Young, her niece Ashley (Ryan) Sliffe, her nephew Dr. Andy (Dr.Sarah) Young, her brother-in-law Larry Snider, and her great nieces Eliza and Milly.
Clare was interested in politics and worked for U.S. Congressman (later Senator) Paul Simon as his Administrative Aide. She received her bachelor's degree from Millikin University, Decatur, Illinois in journalism and political science. She also attended Southern Illinois University for graduate studies in political science.
Clare received her Master's degree in social work from Bryn Mawr College, PA. She spent her career helping others. She worked with domestic violence victims, AIDS patients, emergency room patients and as a hospice social worker at Vitas Hospice in St. Agnes Hospital, Philadelphia which she considered her true calling. At the end of her career, she worked as a therapist for low income clients.
She liked to read historical fiction and mysteries, listen to a wide variety of music, and watch television dramas, comedies, documentaries and films. She enjoyed cooking and liked foods with some spice like Indian, Mexican and Thai. Clare enjoyed plants, animals and beautiful landscapes. In younger years she enjoyed art and writing. She loved dogs and leaves behind her rescued Chihuahua mix Jetti.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice. You may want to consider a local food bank or an animal organization such as the ASPCA.
