Obituary

Margaret Adele O'Donnell (Marge), 83, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a brief illness.

The daughter of Joseph P. Egan Sr. and Lillian Tobin Egan, she grew up in Northeast Philadelphia and graduated from Nazareth Academy. Her love of learning led her to Glassboro College and Temple University, where she earned her degrees, and later to Eastampton School District, where she served as reading supervisor for 30 years.

Marge will be remembered by those who knew her as a caring and loyal friend with an irrepressible spirit and boundless energy. Travel was among her greatest passions. From dancing in the streets of Portugal to hiking the countryside of Ireland and sailing in Belize with her grandchildren, she was always ready for the next adventure.

A fierce protector of the underdog and enemy of social injustice, Marge enjoyed volunteering at St. Vincent De Paul Society thrift store through her beloved Sacred Heart Church. She led many clothing donation trips overseas and was known to go out of her way to prepare a warm meal for anyone who needed one.

Her most cherished role was being a world-class mother and grandmother to her nine grandchildren. Marge was the matriarch and heartbeat of her family, to whom she leaves a well of sage advice and life lessons to draw from. She taught her family to live with character, dignity, and faith while battling illness and adversity. She was an expert at finding the joy in each day, no matter the circumstances.

She is survived by her wife, Constance Pennock, her daughter Keiren (Chip) Dunfee, her sisters Katherine and Elizabeth, her daughters-in-law, Margaret (Tim) and Jodi (Warren) and son-in-law, Scott (Carolann). She was predeceased by her loving sons James and Kevin, and brother Joseph Egan Jr. She will be missed dearly by her grandchildren Shane, Owen, McKenna (Joe), Alina (Don), Nora (Jared), Adam (Rachel), James, Greta, and Josie, many nephews and nieces, and her great niece Robyn. She is also survived by her countless friends at the Kennedy House.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing at the Foster-Warne Funeral Home, 820 Haddon Ave, Collingswood, NJ on Wednesday, November 30, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by her Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, December 1, 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 1739 Ferry Avenue, Camden, NJ. Interment will be held at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ.
