Mary Fenimore Metzler, 93, died peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at her Cherry Hill nursing home.
Born and raised in the family home on 10 th Avenue in Haddon Heights, Mary kept up with her older brothers' activities- playing baseball, football, and riding on the back of brother John's motorcycle. She played field hockey at Haddon Heights High School, graduating in 1944.
After earning a degree at Bucknell University in 1948, Mary worked in the legal department of AT&T in Philadelphia for 5 years. She returned to the workforce 20 years later as a realtor and then in Human Resources for PNC Bank until her retirement in 1996. She continued to work part time and later volunteered with Interfaith Caregivers in Haddonfield.
Mary was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, Haddon Heights where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for many years. After raising her children in Haddonfield, she moved to Collingswood where she spent time walking and biking in Cooper River Park and swimming at Roberts Pool. She enjoyed family trips to the Jersey Shore and traveling to several destinations in Europe and Japan.
She is survived by her son, Martin Metzler (Kathy), and their nieces, Emily, Anne, Tess, and Sophie; and her daughter, Martha Dwyer (Andrew), and their children, Sean and Casey.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date when all can gather together to celebrate her life. Donations in Mary's memory may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 28 Seventh Ave., Haddon Heights NJ 08035.
