Obituary

On January 3, 2015, formerly of Haddon Heights, NJ. Age 94 years.

Beloved husband of the late Eleanor Ives. Dear father of Marjorie (Pete) Kellermann of Downington, PA, Judith (Douglas) Wilson of Barrington, NJ and David (Annette) Ives of West Chester, PA. Loving grandfather of Matthew, Debra, Laura, Blair, Kelsey, Sarah and Jessie. Great granfather of one great grandson, Nathaniel.

Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the only child of Linnie VanStone Ives and Otis Ives. Nate attended public schools in Southington and Bridgeport, CT and earned an Associate's Degree from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, before enlisting in the Navy in 1941. He served in WWII in the Pacific on the USS Torrance, participated in the invasion of Okinawa and was honorably discharged in 1946.

After the war, he found an apartment on Seventh Avenue in Haddon Heights, New Jersey. It was on that street where he met Eleanor Phillips, a Bucknell University graduate living with her parents at the corner of Kings Highway and Seventh Avenue. They were married in 1947 at the First Presbyterian Church on that same block and remained lifelong members of the church.

Eleanor and Nate raised their three children in Haddon Heights, appreciating everything about the community: their dear neighbors on Maple Avenue with whom they shared 5 decades; the tree lined streets; Haddon Glen Swim Club; the public library; the Fourth of July celebrations; the Rotary Club; the public schools and their many friends.

Nate served on the Fourth of July Committee for several years, on the Trustees Board of the First Presbyterian Church and as an officer of the Rotary Club, where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. By profession, he was a broker for wholesale foods in the Philadelphia region, working most of his career for Appet-Cooke and later for the Delaware Valley Brokerage and Chase Sales.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Thursday 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 7th Ave. & Green St., Haddon Heights, NJ 08035. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church at the above address.

Arrangements by the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, Audubon, NJ.
