Obituary

Norbert R. Davis (Norm), of Westmont, NJ, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 21, 2012. He was 89.

The son of Allen and Katherine (Starzynski), he was predeceased by wife, Teresa (Mclaughlin), brother, Allen and sisters, Loretta DiNunzio and Kathleen Cathers. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Hazel Anita (Slatner), son, Dennis (Kim) and daughter, Anita Speas (Jacques); three grandchildren, Lauren Catlett (Jon), Megan Lex (Keith) and Dennis Davis Jr.; and great grandson, Miles.

As a father and husband, Norm always put family first and was proud of his children and grandchildren and all of their accomplishements. He was his wife's anchor and a champion for all her endeavors. A generous and kindhearted man who abided by a strong code of ethics, Norm was lightening fast at grabbing a restaurant check and could always be counted on to provide practical words of wisdom and support. He was well read and was always ready to discuss current events. He had a love of animals and some of his favorite moments were spent reading a good book or watching the Eagles game in his Pocono home with his wife and his bulldog, Gidget, by his side.

Norm was raised in South Camden, moving to Westmont in 1967. He graduated from Camden High School in 1940 and attended night school at the Drexel University electrical engineering program. A proud member of Local 98 IBEW for 68 years, he served as a journeyman, foreman, superintendent, elected official, first year apprentice instructor and apprentice training director, teaching 1,070 apprentices in his career. He was a tough but fair teacher who became a role model, mentor and friend to his students. During his tenure as the apprentice training director, he developed the welding program that continues to this day. Norm was also a committed member, teasurer and Paul Harris Fellow of the Audubon/Haddon Twp./Oaklyn Rotary Club.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Wednesday Evening 6 to 9 PM and Thursday 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, 820 Haddon Ave., Collingswood, NJ.
