Phyllis Jean Pulliam , age 94, of Collingswood , N J , passed away on June 25 , 2021 from living a long , full life . She was surrounded by her children and grandchildren and loved ones .
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, George Willard and Romaine Shade of Lewistown , PA , her stepmother , Gladys Shade of Harrisburg , PA , her husband Dr . John M . Pulliam , Jr . , her brothers, Thomas W . ' Bill ' Shade of Annville , PA , Robert Shade of Walled Lake , MI , Richard Shade of Lewistown , PA , her sister, Marilyn Shade of Lewistown , PA , and an infant son, John M . Pulliam, III .
Phyllis is survived by her children , John C . Pulliam of Collingswood , NJ , Anne M . Perry ( Bruce ) of Long Valley , NJ, Phyllis ' Mimi ' J . Salmon ( Charles ) of Seattle , WA , and David A . Pulliam ( Barbara ) of West Deptford , NJ . and grandchildren: Sherry McLaughlin ( Sean ) of Wilmington , DE , John N . Pulliam of Collingswood , NJ , Jean M . Blatter ( Chris ) of Los Angeles , CA , Peter C . McGlaughlin of Urbana , I L , Katherine M . Perry ( David ) of Philadelphia , PA , David M . Perry of Brooklyn , NY , Hannah C . Salmon of Seattle , WA , Gabriel T . Salmon of Richmond , VA , Aidan Pulliam of West Deptford , NJ and four great grandchildren .
Phyllis was born in Altoona , PA on July 26 , 1926 ; she lived her early life in Lewistown , PA . She attended the Helene Fuld School of Nursing at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Camden , NJ, earning her R . N . in 1948 . Phyllis met her husband , Dr . John M . Pulliam , Jr . at work in the Cooper Hospital , Camden , NJ ; they married November 1 , 1951 , and remained married until John ' s death in 2005 .
Phyllis was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of Cooper Hospital , now known as the Women ' s Board Committee of The Cooper Foundation , serving in various leadership roles over the years and finally as the Auxiliary President . Phyllis was a faithful member of St. Paul ' s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Collingswood , NJ . An avid artist , Phyllis worked in a variety of media including watercolors , acrylic , and oil paints , and won prizes in juried art contests . Fibby , as she was called in childhood , had a soft spot for animals and was known to take in and feed abandoned baby birds and squirrels with an eyedropper . Fibby was always ready for a dance , a laugh , or a party . Fibby loved entertaining at the house and inviting friends and family for festive dinners .
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Saturday, July 24, 2021, 10 to 11 AM at the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, 820 Haddon Ave., Collingswood, NJ. Remembrance service will follow at 11 AM. Inurnment Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill, NJ.
