Obituary
Polly Allen Souder went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 13 in Arbor View at Willow Valley Communities in Lancaster, PA at the age of 100.
Polly was born on November 21, 1915 in Norwich, NY to the Rev. Dr. Paul Riley Allen and Gertrude Hicks Allen. Her husband, Lawrence H. Souder, Jr., passed away in 1988. Her daughter, Jacqueline Eleanor Proveaux, passed away in 1994.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, Lawrence and Patricia Souder of Montrose, PA and Paul and Sandra Souder of Skaneateles, NY; three grandchildren and their spouses, David and Michele Souder of South Glastonbury, CT; Janelle and Mark Sweet of Colorado Springs, CO; and Mechele and Ethan Lee of Glastonbury, CT, and six great grandchiildren, Alison, Josh and Andrew Souder; Abby and Caleb Lee and Nathaniel Sweet.
Polly graduated from Norwich High School in 1933 and Wheaton College (IL) with a degree in English Literature in 1937. She was married in Norwich in July, 1939 and moved to South Jersey thereafter. She lived in Collingswood, Moorestown and Haddonfield, NJ.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Collingswood and was active in Christian Women's Clubs, serving as an area representative, regional representative and club speaker. She moved to Willow Valley Communities in Lancaster in 1994. Polly celebrated her 100th birthday on November 21, 2015, with every member of her family present for a birthday dinner.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, January 17, at 2 PM in the Orr Auditorium in Willow Valley Manor at 211 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA 17602.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Monday, January 18, at 2 PM in the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, 820 Haddon Ave., Collingswood, NJ followed by her Graveside Service at 2:30 PM at Harleigh Cemetery, Camden, NJ.
Memorial donations in Polly's memory may be given to the First United Methodist Church, 201 Dayton Ave., Collingswood, NJ 08108; Cairn University, 200 Manor Ave., Langhorne, PA 19047; or Montrose Broadcasting Corp., P.O. Box 248, Montrose, PA 18801.
