On December 14, 2010, of Moorestown, NJ. Age 86 years.
Beloved husband of Nancy J. Tanner (nee Rainey). Dear father of Jeff L. Tanner and Linda A. (Tom) Carpenter. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and his beloved cat, Misty.
Ray was a WWII U.S. Army veteran serving in Europe and receiving his honorable discharge in 1946. He was the youngest of three brothers. In 1955, along with his brothers, Edward and Dick and father, Lawrence, they purchased the National Ammonia Co. in Northeast Philadelphia from E.I. Dupont Co. Later known as Tanner Industries, Inc., Ray was V.P. & secretary/treasurer of the company until Edward died in 1984. He took over as President & CEO until 1990 and was Chairman of the Board at the time of his death.
Ray loved the Jersey Shore and was an avid fisherman (or boating, as the case may be, since he seldom caught any fish). He also enjoyed hunting, reading, photography, having discussions (especially political) and dining with family & friends. Ray was a very generous and caring man who will be missed by all who knew him.
Friends are invited to attend his visitation, Saturday January 15, 10 to 11 AM at Faith United Presbyterian Church, 318 Stokes Rd., Medford, NJ 08055. Memorial Service to follow at 11 AM. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 915 Haddon Ave., Camden, NJ 08103.
