Obituary

Robert Douglas Lowden "Bob", a resident of Collingswood for 37 years, originally from Burlington, NJ passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his cherished family on October 28, 2015, after a long and courageous 8 year battle against colon cancer.  He was predeceased by his parents, Jay H. Lowden and Gladys E. Lowden Metz (the late Arthur).  He is survived by his beloved wife and soul mate of over 40 years, Candace "Candy" H. Lowden.  Adored and loving Pater of two daughters, Jessica A. Floyd (Charles) and Kimberly H. (Michael Roberts); caring grandfather to Nick, Justin and Hayley Floyd.  Also survived by his devoted sister, Nancy Hustis (Bruce) and one brother, Jay Lowden (Dianne).  He was the beloved Uncle Bob to numerous nieces and nephews; as well as wonderful friend to a host of in-laws, close friends, church family, neighbors and co-workers.

Born in Burlington, Bob was a life-long South Jersey resident.  He graduated from Burlington City High School in 1970 and received his BS in Sociology from Otterbein College, Westerville, OH in 1974.

After college, he worked for a period of time managing Fayva shoe stores in the area.  It was here at a chance meeting that he met the love of his life, recently celebrating 39 years of marriage to his "Candy Hart" this past September.

Bob was a loyal and dedicated employee of PSE&G for over 35 years, receiving many accolades and awards during his tenure, beginning at Burlington Generator, then at Salem Nuclear and Newark Corporate as a Procurement Analyst, from where he retired this past April.  He never once complained about his long commutes, no matter what the weather or the time of day, nor how he was feeling once the cancer came upon him or after receiving his necessary treatments and still going to work.

Throughout the years he volunteered many, many hours to the Collingswood Recreation Department, coaching his daughters' teams, running the girls basketball league and assisting his wife each summer instructing archery.  Not to mention countless hours of behind the scenes help with her Real Estate career.

Bob was passionate about The Beatles and their music, as well as all things to do with the Civil War.  He was a life-long Phillies and Eagles fan, enjoyed Mel Brooks and John Wayne movies, photography, VW Beetles, walks around the neighborhood and a cold Corona on the front porch!  In later years, he took up golfing, delighting when able to play the various courses in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, "heaven here on earth".

He was an avid supporter of the American Cancer Society via the annual Relay for Life and his namesake team: Zoom for Bob.  He never wanted to be the center of attention and was humbled by the outpouring of love and donations to the team on his behalf for cancer research.

However, above and beyond everything else, it was his family who brought him the greatest joy.  He felt deep pride in the many accomplishments of his two daughters, wife and extended family.  Even at his most ill moments he always asked how someone else was doing, what he could do for them.  Bob's dry wit was always in good fun.  "Ooo Baby!"  To know Bob was to love him.  His kind understanding and loving patience endeared him to all.  He was an incredible man, always smiling with his positive attitude, strong faith and enduring spirit that inspired everyone to follow in his footsteps.  It was recently stated that Bob was the "epitome of kindness".  A finer tribute could not be spoken.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday, November 7th, 9 AM to 12 Noon at the Collingswood Presbyterian Church, 30 Fern Ave., Collingswood, NJ 08108.  A worship service celebrating Bob's life will be at 12:15 PM.  Interment to follow immediately after in the Church Memorial Garden.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to the above mentioned church.

Arrangements by the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, Collingswood & Audubon, NJ.
