IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thelma Jean
Anderson
September 5, 1932 – August 10, 2024
Thelma Jean Booth was born in Upper Darby Township, Pennsylvania on September 5, 1932, and was a first-generation American. She passed from here to eternity on August 10, 2024.
Jean, as she preferred to be called, was the seventh of nine children to George Andrew Booth and Agnes (nee Higgins) Booth. Preceded in death by her parents, George and Agnes, and her siblings: George, Mary Winifred (m. Whitney Frye), Angus Ross (m. Rosella Cain), Margaret Johnston (m. Pasquale Mangelli), Agnes (m. Tony Frye), Elizabeth Hamilton (m. Francis Oddi), James Hamilton, and Thomas William (m. Roberta Martin). There are many nieces and nephews in the family that were treated very well by their Aunt Jean.
Jean was married to William Walter Anderson (b.1931 – d.1994). After they were married, they resided in Secane, Pennsylvania. They had one son, William M. Anderson, a 1973 graduate of Collingswood High School and Rutgers University, who now resides in San Diego, California.
A move to Collingswood, New Jersey, was made necessary by life's circumstances. Jean lived on Haddon Avenue, Highland Avene, and Lees Avenue with her son.
For many years, Jean was a waitress at a club/restaurant on North Park Drive, Pennsauken, facing the Cooper River. Many headliners from the Latin Casino, "Showcase of Stars", in Cherry Hill would frequent this club after their performances at the once-great venue. Jean had a photo of Sammy Davis, Jr. which was personalized to her.
Later, Jean became an aide at the Methodist Home on Haddon Avenue, Collingswood. Jean retired from the Methodist Home in Collingswood, New Jersey. Afterwards, she then became a homecare provider for families in the area, including Haddon Heights.
Weekends at the Cherry Hill Mall were enjoyed by many nieces while in Jean's company. The bairns would be entranced by the fountain display and jump around the circles in the floor while Jean, and sometimes a sister, would be watching.
Jean will be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews who remain to carry on the Irish and Scottish traditions.
Jean resided in Pine Acres Rehabilitation Center in Madison, New Jersey, for the past nine years. She will be missed by the staff at Pine Acres.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jean's Life Celebration Graveside Service on Thursday, August 22, 10:30AM at Fernwood Cemetery, 6501 E. Baltimore Ave., Lansdowne, PA 19050.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Thelma Jean Anderson to the Pine Acres Rehabilitation Center, 51 Madison Avenue, Madison, NJ 07940.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon you,
And the rain fall gently down.
May God hold you, ever hold you.
May God hold you, in the palm of His hand.
